Jim Popiel

Dr. Popiel received his PhD in physics from Temple University in 1990. After publishing several papers on Quantum Mechanics, he came to a fork in the road: Understand Physics more deeply by moving forward traditionally OR understand it by following the multiple paths that precede it. He chose the latter, and to that end he established a private tutoring business, where he tutored high school, college, and graduate students in math, physics, and engineering. As Einstein said: "You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother."

Charles Shuman

Charles Heath Shuman has been teaching and tutoring Mathematics and Statistics courses for over 30 years at Drexel University, Temple University, and Penn State university. He holds a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from Drexel university and also a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania. He has won numerous awards for teaching excellence including the prestigious Crystal Teaching award from Temple University.

His general teaching philosophy and tutorial style can be best summed up as follows: I have always believes that Mathematics and Statistics are not "spectator sports". So, I always try to actively engage my students to help them understand and master their course material. Instead of viewing my teaching role as a traditional "sage on the stage". I prefer to see my role as a supportive "coach" who partners with the student as a dynamic collaborator in the learning process. I also try to be as enthusiastic as possible, and do my very best to hold the student's attention for as long as possible. One of my former students wrote down the following comment on her Student Feedback Form: "I really like Prof. Shumans's teaching style, because he makes math seem a lot more interesting than it really is."
